Founded and edited by Victory Nwabu-Ekeoma, Bia! Zine is an independent storytelling project that explores the culinary identities of immigrant and marginalised communities in Ireland.
To mark the launch of their lunch bag merchandise, created in collaboration with illustrator Stacy Miyoung Kim, I led the art direction and design of a moving image piece for the rollout. Inspired by the childlike curiosity of opening a school lunchbox — I drew on food packaging labels and the everyday details found in multicultural grocers, amplifying their colour, character, and familiarity throughout the piece. Anchored in the caption, “What’s that?”, the final visual celebrates the richness and joy of foods from home, reframing curiosity as appreciation and shifting the tone from inquisitive to positive.
